Childhood obesity is shown for children aged 2 to 5 years enrolled in Minnesota WIC.

The WIC Program serves children up to age five living in lower income households. In Minnesota one out of three children ages two up to five years are served by WIC. WIC serves populations that are at higher risk for obesity than the general population.

For more information about childhood obesity, see MN Public Health Data Access: Childhood Obesity

Data Notes
  • "Percent obesity or overweight status" describes the proportion of children with a BMI at the 85th percentile or greater. This means that a child's weight, height, age, and sex are all taken into account.
  • Map categories were created using natural breaks.
  • Geographies mapped here are ZIP code of residence. A small number of children have an unknown ZIP code of residence and these are included in the Minnesota total.
  • Areas flagged as “Data not shown (**)” have less than 30 children enrolled in WIC. In some instances, this includes areas with no children enrolled in WIC.
